My Father’s Photos – Part 2

I’ll continue to scan and upload photos my dad took as a news photographer as I go through them. The photo of the wrecked pick up truck had other photos with it, but they included charred bodies from the wreck and I’ve chosen not to post. Enjoy these though!

The 50’s kitchen looks a lot like Don and Peggy Draper’s kitchen.

  3. The photo of the dance show is ” Dance Part ” hosted by Bob Waddell and sponsored by Royal Crown Cola. You can see part of the crown and the lettr C in the background on the wall.I loved that show when it aired live on WFMY on Thurday afternoons in the early sixties.

Bob Waddell was my uncle. He took me on “Dance Party” once to sit on his podium and look cute I guess. I was maybe 3-4 years old. He took a lot of his nieces and nephews on the show in those days. We were all very proud of having a “famous uncle” back then! Unfortunately, Bob died January of 1990, at the age of 62. He was way too young. Cigarettes were definitely a factor, as smoking was oh so common in mid-century America then. He also caught a rare avian flu that damaged his lungs in the 1980’s. We almost lost him then. So glad to see that there are some folks who remember Bob.

  5. Hey Rob – I’m sorry to hear that Bob died so young. My dad (who took the photo) died at 68. I have some photos of Bob somewhere. If I find them, I’ll add them. Thanks for looking!

If you could do that, you have no idea how grateful I and the rest of the Waddell extended family would be. Thanks so much.
